More constraints on my oven

I’ve been working madly away on getting this oven prototype ready, and it’s come to my attention that I may have been going about this all wrong. I met with my wonderfully supportive group on Thursday (Allistar and Jane), and they suggested that perhaps my keypad approach wasn’t the best ever, and that maybe I’d be better off using dials instead. That would absolutely solve the problem as well, especially since in most cases you’re not setting time or temperature too far from the starting point, and better yet, the user would be able to tack on more time or higher temperatures during the cooking process as opposed to the keypad way of having to program in new times.

I’ve asked a few people what they thought, and the replies seem to be mixed — some prefer the all-digital concept of a keypad, and some like the idea of sticking with dials and knobs. I think this means I’ll have to do both, but of course I’m not sure I can handle the programming for both. I’ll have to think on which is more relevant, and in the meantime keep working on the interface itself, as once I have that going, the dials-vs-keypad argument is pretty minor.

More to come a bit later on.
