So the NIME project moves on, but a bit slower than I’d hoped. The good news is that the Max side of things has taken leaps and bounds forward. I’ve altered the effects a lot, tried to keep it truer to architectural-minded sounds, and generally cleaned up the patch. It now sounds much more like what I’d like, and it runs just fine. Looky!
(I’ll post some sound clips soonish.)
The sad news is that I’ve still got a long way to go on the physical side. I’ve gotten eight sliders wired up successfully (six simultaneous shown here), and have been able to get all sorts of fun noises out of this setup. So, in short, I know that part’ll work. The issue is that I can’t seem to find motorized slide pots, err, anywhere. All the places that people used to find them seem to have run out, and the remaining places either need 100-minimum orders or cost about $50. So, a few folks on the ITP physcomp list have offered to loan me a few, but in the meantime I’m going to have to build this with the intent of motorizing little (or none) of it.

This week’s going to be a doozy — I have to build the whole housing still. The way I’m picturing it, it shouldn’t be too hard to assemble, but lord have I been wrong about THAT before. The prototype is due on November 7th, so I have a LOT to cover in a short time. Updates to follow as always.
